One might think the tourist attractions in Salt Lake City, Utah might have less to do with the LDS religion or downtown area and more with nature. There certainly are plenty of things to do outdoors and all the seasons, but the focus here is to discuss well-known attractions within Salt Lake City. However, we can’t mention top tourist attractions in Salt Lake City, Utah without mentioning skiing. Check them out below.
Temple Square
Temple Square is one of if not the most popular attraction in Salt Lake City. It sits right in the heart of Downtown SLC, next to many great restaurants & bars, Mexaplex movie theatre, Dave & Busters, Wiseguys Comedy Club, The Vivint Smart Home Arena and the Gateway Mall. This area is the holy place of the Mormons and is decorated with colorful flower beds, trees and a fountain. The area contains The Mormon Temple, Mormon Tabernacle, Assembly Hall and Temple Annex.
LDS Temple
The Mormon Temple is one of the most iconic landmarks in Utah. It is an impressive piece of architecture. The building was constructed over a 40 year period from 1853-1893. A rather impressive feat considering the time period and technology available. If you’re not Mormon you are unable to walk through. However, it’s recommended to check out the temple at night when it’s lit up.
Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum of Utah is a great place to visit on a stormy day. Study ancient fossils and learn what animals & plants used to exist in Utah millions of years ago. At any time there are 5,000 items on display, a total of 1.6M in possession, in the more than 40,000 square feet of educational facilities and displays.
Utah Ski Resorts
Utah, “The Greatest Snow on Earth” is a very popular vacation destination. This is no surprise as two local resorts ranked in the top 5 ski resorts for the 2020-2021 season, Alta Ski Resort at #4 and Snowbird at #3. There are a total of 15 ski resorts in the state, 9 of them within an hour of Salt Lake City, accumulating 1,080 km of slopes. There isn’t much there needs to be said about skiing as one of the main tourist attractions in Salt Lake City, Utah. It’s a well-known big deal.
Tour of the State Capitol
The Utah State Capitol is sure to take your breath away. This massive building is home to the Utah House of Representatives, Sentate, Governor and Supreme Court. The Capitol sits 300 feet above the city providing excellent views of Downtown Salt Lake City all the way to the end of the valley at South Mountain in Draper. The interior is known for its marble rotunda, a gallery with rotating exhibits, artwork on the ceiling and Utah history on panels along the hallway. You may take a guided tour or tour yourself.
