Watering Holes: Bars in Salt Lake City Utah

Who would ever think that Utah has a rather active nightlife? Those that come from out of state most likely assume Utah being the “Mormon State” would hardly have incredible watering holes. Well, if you thought that way, you are mistaken. Salt Lake City has a very active nightlife with many great places to socialize, hangout, network, etc all while enjoying your favorite alcoholic beverage. Perhaps you stop by one of these great establishments after a romantic date night! Whatever the occasion, come cap off your night with a few drinks at some great bars in Salt Lake City Utah!

Bar X/ Beer Bar

Bar X and Beer Bar are neighbors that have the same owners. A while back a group of investors bought out both bars and returned them to their former glory. One of the investors is Ty Burrell, a TV star known for his role as Phil Dunphy in the hit TV sitcom Modern Family. Ty is a Utah native and wants to use his wealth to help restore some Utah classics. Bar X opened in 1933 shortly after Utah repealed the prohibition and has been open since then. Through bad ownership, Bar X went downhill quickly. Ty and his business partners hoped to turn the establishment around and make it well-known in Salt Lake. Bar X is a typical bar whereas Beer Bar is known for its wide variety of liquors. Just kidding, it’s known for its large variety of beers. Almost a paralysis by analysis of the amount of beers as there’s so many which one do you pick!

Lake Effect

Lake Effect is arguably one of the more popular bars in Salt Lake with middle-aged adults and recent college graduates. This is a higher-end establishment with both a main floor bar and a basement bar. There is a $5 cover charge and drinks are a bit more expensive but the live music and luxury feel attracts people from around the area. They have the largest liquor selection in the state and a kitchen serving up some of the finest meals in Salt Lake. Located right across the street from the Salt Palace Convention Center, grab a drink and a meal after a long day of conventioning or checking out downtown Salt Lake. Check out their website for a virtual tour of the establishment as well as their line up of upcoming live music.

Quarters Arcade Bar

Do you love to drink and play your favorite arcade games from your childhood? Look no further than Quarters Arcade Bar! Does your inner child love to play ski-ball but now you’re old enough to legally drink? This underground bar can give you exactly that. There’s a wide variety of games to play and a full bar to give you the perfect combination of entertainment and alcohol. They’ve even got the old school quarter dispensing machine! Bring your loose change or small bills and have yourself a great time at Quarters!

Bodega and The Rest

Bodega is a really interesting bar. From the street, the sidewalk looking in, the main floor is really small. It looks like it might hold 30 people. What you don’t see is the massive underground bar separate from the top. This downstairs section is where you can sit down, enjoy a meal and have a drink. This is a great place to take that special someone on a date unlike any other. The rustic architecture and design is paired with beautiful chandeliers and strung up lights. The best part is the seclusion, it feels like you’re in a spy movie with a hidden back room. It truly is an unforgettable experience.
