Sand Mountain at Sand Hollow State Park

Sand Mountain located at Sand Hollow State Park is a very popular place to ride your ATV, dirtbike, RzR or custom-built machine. The desert provides riding opportunities that trail riding can’t. There’s no roads in the dunes, make your own trail and carve fresh tracks. However, the dunes can be dangerous. Chances of flipping or rolling over are high as sand dunes can be tall and the unknown awaits on the backside. There are some trails to help riders navigate around obstacles. We recommend sticking to the trails or following other riders until you are familiar with the terrain. As always, wear proper safety gear, drive at appropriate speeds, be wary of others and be careful going up and over sand hills.

Riding at Sand Hollow State Park does require that all vehicles on the sand have a flag attached that extends above the vehicle and is visible. Collisions are likely and this is a great way to keep awareness of other riders.

To access the sand dunes, enter Sand Hollow State Park and proceed to the south end of the lake. There’s plenty of parking for vehicles and trailers. Additional riding trails lead into the sand dunes but are only accessible with off-highway vehicles.
